Sainte Foy Tarentaise : 08 August 2020
It’s been a week of two halves for the lift building crew. The helicopter should have been busy delivering concrete for the pylon foundations, but unfortunately, a couple of stormy weather days kept it grounded at the beginning of the week. Then the weather improved, and the concreting gangs were back in business.
The lead picture shows the concrete pad onto which the landing station will be built at the top of the new Arpettaz lift in Sainte Foy. The view is looking downhill, with Aiguille Rouge in the background. The photograph below shows the uphill part of the landing station’s foundations.
For each of the pylons, there is a concrete pad with a concrete block constructed on top of it. This boxing is used to form the shape of the concrete block. Inside this boxing will be metal reinforcement and a metal cage construction onto which the pylon will be fixed.
In the next image, you can see the reassuringly solid concrete base after the boxing has been removed. Note the circular top of the metal frame, onto which the pylon will be fixed.
The evening sun was at eye level, so apologies for the slightly over exposed last photo. It shows the concrete base pads at the base station of the lift, and the Ski Club hut in the top centre of the picture.
Steady progress is being made and eight of the ten pylons now have their concrete foundations. However, the works are now a few days behind schedule, but they are not worried yet. Everybody is well aware of the deadline on this project!
