Sainte Foy Tarentaise :  22 August 2020

Progress on the new Arpettaz chairlift in Sainte Foy has been good this last week.  Fabulous sunny weather has allowed the helicopter to fly every day, and the arrival station at the top of the lift is starting to take shape.

At each of the pylon sites, the large concrete foundations are now hidden underground, and all that can be seen is the metal frame on to which the pylon itself will eventually be attached.

The pylon metalwork has started to arrive, ready for installation, and in the next photo you can see the crossbars which will go on top of the pylons to support the gantries and guide wheels for the wire cables.

Next we can see that some of the gantry metal work has been delivered and is also ready for assembly.

The workmen on site are pleased with their progress, tell us that they are on schedule, and are enjoying working in the mountain sunshine.  Everyone is hopeful of continued good weather, not least because the helicopter requires good weather to operate.  There are eight full barrels of helicopter aviation fuel at the top of Arpettaz, so that’s quite a few hours of flying time still to go!

It’s exciting to see the new lift taking shape, and we look forward to watching the pylons sprout up very soon!
